Founders Day Of Savannah State University

                                                                          Introduction

Savannah State University is one of the oldest historically black colleges in the United States. Each year, the university celebrates Founders Day too honor its founders. SSU was founded to meet a social need at a time when African Americans lacked educational resources. The founders included education advocates such as Henry A. Oglethorpe and other community leaders who supported education. They believed that education was the key to improving the status of African Americans in society and were committed to creating a school that would provide opportunities for higher education.
